-
Ensuring that safeguarding concerns are acted upon promptly and appropriately.

4. Recognising Safeguarding Concerns
Safeguarding concerns may include, but are not limited to:
-
Physical abuse.
-
Emotional or psychological abuse.
-
Sexual abuse or exploitation.
-
Neglect.
-
Domestic abuse.
-
Financial abuse.
-
Bullying, harassment or intimidation.
-
Grooming or inappropriate relationships.

Exploitation, including criminal or sexual exploitation.
-
Radicalisation or concerns relating to extremism.
-
Self-neglect or concerns about an individual's immediate safety.
-
Any behaviour or circumstance that causes a member of staff to believe that someone may be at risk of harm.
A safeguarding concern does not need to be proven before it is reported. A concern, disclosure or reasonable suspicion should be taken seriously and passed to the Safeguarding Lead or the appropriate authority.
5. Responding to a Disclosure
If someone discloses a safeguarding concern to a member of staff, the staff member should:
-
Listen calmly and take the person seriously.
-
Allow them to explain what has happened in their own words.
-
Avoid asking unnecessary or leading questions.
-
Do not promise to keep the information secret.
-
Explain that the information may need to be shared with someone who can help keep them safe.
-
Record the concern as soon as possible, using the person's own words where appropriate.
-
Report the concern promptly to Michelle, the Safeguarding Lead.
-
If there is an immediate risk of serious harm, contact the emergency services without delay.
Staff should not attempt to investigate a safeguarding allegation themselves.
6. Confidentiality and Information Sharing
Safeguarding information will be treated sensitively and shared only with those who need the information to protect an individual or respond appropriately to a concern.
Confidentiality should not prevent information from being shared where doing so is necessary to protect someone from harm.
Safeguarding records will be stored securely and access will be restricted to authorised individuals.
7. Allegations Against Staff or Instructors
Any allegation or concern involving a member of staff or driving instructor will be taken seriously.
The matter should be reported immediately to Michelle as Safeguarding Lead. Where appropriate, the concern will be referred to the relevant external safeguarding authority or other appropriate organisation.
The person raising the concern will not be expected to investigate the allegation themselves.
Where the concern involves Michelle, the matter should be reported directly to an appropriate external safeguarding authority.
8. Professional Boundaries
All staff and instructors are expected to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with learners and clients.
Staff should:
-
Treat learners with dignity and respect.
-
Avoid inappropriate physical contact.
-
Maintain professional communication.
-
Avoid conduct that could reasonably be considered inappropriate or exploitative.
-
Report any concerns about a learner's welfare.
-
Maintain appropriate boundaries when communicating through social media or messaging services.
Particular care should be taken when working with learners who are under 18 or who may be vulnerable.
9. Online Safety
Lloyds Driver Training recognises that safeguarding concerns can also arise through online communication and social media.
Staff should not engage in inappropriate online communication with learners. Any concerning messages, images, requests or online behaviour should be reported to Michelle where appropriate.
10. Safeguarding Records
Where a safeguarding concern is raised, a written record should be made as soon as reasonably possible.
Records should include:
-
Date and time of the concern or disclosure.
-
Name of the person involved, where known.
-
A factual description of what was seen, heard or reported.
-
The actions taken.
-
Details of who the concern was reported to.
-
Any referral or contact made with an external organisation.
Records should be factual and should avoid speculation or personal opinions.
11. Emergency Situations
If someone is in immediate danger or there is an immediate risk of serious harm, staff should contact the emergency services on 999.
Safeguarding concerns that are not an immediate emergency should be reported to Michelle and, where necessary, to the relevant local safeguarding authority.
12. Training and Awareness
Lloyds Driver Training will ensure that staff and instructors understand their safeguarding responsibilities and know how to raise a concern.
Safeguarding procedures will be communicated to relevant staff and reviewed regularly.
13. Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed at least annually, or sooner where there are changes to legislation, guidance, business arrangements or safeguarding procedures.
Next Review Date: 23 July 2027
